Skick: Mycket bra skick - som ny
This is a Chinese famille rose porcelain bowl with:
* Diameter: 18 cm (a useful size for dating and function)
* Deep rounded form with a neatly finished foot ring
* Central decoration of roosters, flowering branches, rocks, and garden plants
* A geometric key-fret (leiwen) border alternating with floral cartouches
* An iron-red seal mark on the base.
The painting is noticeably more restrained and very well painted.
The roosters are significant. In Chinese art they symbolize:
* good fortune
* courage
* success in examinations or official career
* protection against evil
A group of roosters in a flowering garden was a very popular decorative subject during the Qing dynasty and continued into the Republic period.
The mark
The mark appears to read:
乾隆年製
(“Made during the Qianlong reign”)
The stamp is more worn than on your other pieces, but it appears to be the same four-character Qianlong mark.
Painting
The birds are painted with individual feather strokes instead of simplified blobs.
The flowers also have reasonably careful brushwork.
Those are characteristics I would expect on a better-quality hand-painted bowl.
