Excellent condition, 8,5/10, Made in Tullstorp, including hardcase (an original Martin case for an OM guitar), Vankiva in November 2007 by Ralph Leonius, this is instrument number 5 built by this luthier, slotted headstock, herringbone binding on the top, heavily bearclawed spruce top, indian rosewood back and sides, built in Bband A3T pickup system, bird inlay in the 12th position, ebony fingerboard, only slight fret wear, more info from Kristianstadsbladet:
Ralph Leonius is a guitar teacher but has many strings on his lyre. He builds the instruments himself, for Janne Bark and Calle Christiansson, among others. -Of course you set up when there is a fair next door. It is a window to the outside where I get a chance to show my guitars, and this is the second year that I have been there, says the local builder of electric and acoustic guitars.
He has always been interested in music, but also in building and carpentry.
– I have played in various bands, trained and work as a music teacher, but also took a guitar building course with Mikael Sandén, who is a guru in the field.
-I have now had a workshop for six years and where I spend a large part of my time when I am not teaching at the Cultural School. The 33rd, which is a steel-stringed acoustic guitar, was finished as late as Friday and is one of the ones I have at the fair.
The JB model
Ralph Leonius also shows an eldito. He tells us that he built the first copy of the model for Janne Bark in Kristianstad, who has played with Ulf Lundell and is now on tour with Dan Hylander.
-I build my guitars from scratch. I order wood like sitka spruce and flame maple from Alaska. In that process, Janne Bark comes in and we discuss new models. He is a fox in the music industry and it is fun to work with.
As a guitar builder, you never become a complete master.
– The driving force is that you can constantly make improvements and come up with new things. It is not the body, the neck or the locks that alone determine the tone. Everything is connected and in perfect proportions, says Ralph Leonius, who prefers solid wood.
