This Tudor Royal Ref. 1737 from circa 1960 represents one of the refined mid century dress models produced during Tudor’s transitional era — a period when the brand still carried the classic Tudor rose emblem and embraced the clean, understated design language that defined its early identity. The Royal line occupied a unique position in Tudor’s catalogue: elegant, slim, and mechanically robust, offering Rolex adjacent quality with a distinctly Tudor aesthetic.
The original silver/cream sunburst dial is beautifully preserved, showing an attractive and even patina that enhances its vintage character. The applied gold Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6, and 9 — paired with matching baton markers — create a balanced and harmonious layout typical of Tudor’s early 1960s dress watches. The gold sword style hands with original luminous inlays complement the dial perfectly, maintaining the model’s clean and purposeful mid century look. The classic Tudor rose signature further anchors the watch in its correct historical period, predating the later shield emblem.
Housed in a polished stainless steel case measuring 34.5 mm, the watch wears larger than its dimensions suggest thanks to its long, elegant lugs and open dial design. The stainless-steel case has a very slim profile protecting the movement within.
