This copy has been professionally graded by CGC (Certified Guaranty Company) and received a score of 9.2 NM- (Near Mint Minus). Pages are rated White — the best possible page quality. The comic remains sealed in its original CGC slab, untouched since grading. Certification number 4025697002, verifiable on the CGC website.
This is the 1st appearance of Spider-Man's black symbiote costume — the suit that would eventually become Venom, one of Marvel's most popular characters. It ties with Marvel Team-Up #141 for the first appearance of the black costume and features an homage to the legendary Amazing Fantasy #15 cover. Story by Roger Stern and Tom DeFalco, art by Ron Frenz and Brett Breeding, cover by Ron Frenz and Klaus Janson. An absolute cornerstone key issue for any serious Marvel collector.
The newsstand edition is notably rarer than the direct edition. Newsstand copies were distributed through retail newsstands and convenience stores, and far fewer survived in high grade compared to direct edition copies sold in comic shops. This makes a CGC 9.2 newsstand copy a particularly scarce find.
Condition: CGC 9.2 – Near Mint Minus. A high-grade example of one of Marvel's most significant keys, in the harder-to-find newsstand variant.
