This Mercedes-Benz 230 SL was delivered new to the Swedish market and comes with a particularly interesting ownership history. Supplied new in the beautiful combination of Light Ivory exterior paint over a red leather interior, and equipped with a 4-speed manual gearbox, it was originally delivered via the legendary Mercedes dealer Philipson Bil.

The original purchasing client was none other than Volvo Cars, as confirmed by the original registration documents. During Volvo’s ownership, the car was used by CEO Gunnar Engellau for driving around Gothenburg. The Volvo story does not end there: after speaking with the consignor, we learned that the car was later owned by P. G. Gyllenhammar, a later CEO of Volvo and also Mr Engellau’s son-in-law.

The car has remained in Sweden throughout its life and presents in exceptional original condition, having never been restored. The only exceptions are a single repaint and the fitting of a new soft top. It has clearly been maintained to a very high standard and comes with roadworthiness inspection papers dating back to the early 1970s, supporting its original mileage of just 98,048 km.

The car drives every bit as well as it looks and would make a perfect summer cruiser, whether you are in Stockholm or St Tropez, the Pagoda feels equally at home wherever it goes.
