Classics at the table: cutlery from Rosenthal, Germany
Founded around 1770, the Neuzeughammer anvil plant in Neuzeug near Steyr in Upper Austria produced very interesting cutlery from the 1950s to the 70s. Well-known designers were Carl Auböck jr. or Helmut Alder, and with the design 7000 of the Hungarian, then just 32-year-old artist János Megyik, Amboss came in 1970 to one of the most impressive cutlery of the 20th century.
Amboss began a collaboration with Rosenthal in 1963 and was finally acquired by Rosenthal in 1969. As a result, some Amboss designs appeared in the Rosenthal Studio line. Amboss received numerous awards and prizes for its cutlery.
The cutlery is also called ”Bacon” or ”Buffalo” and it’s rosewood, teak or palisander. Mid century modern!
