A colorful homage to the original kneeling chair. Variable™ Monochrome reimagines the iconic design with seamless transitions from wood to upholstery, highlighting its sculptural shape. Designed to support movement and variation while seated, it offers the same dynamic sitting experience as the original Variable™, in a new look.
Variable™ follows the body’s need to shift and change position, allowing you to move freely between kneeling and more traditional postures. Built on the balans® concept, the tilted seat helps open the hips and reduce strain on the lower back, neck, and shoulders.
Introduced in 1979, Variable™ was one of the first chairs developed from the balans® concept and quickly became a design icon. Its curved runners allow for gentle rocking, while the open construction makes it easy to shift positions throughout the day. Two cushions beneath the seat let you adjust how you sit - rest your shins, your feet, or simply leave them aside and keep your feet on the floor. You can also turn the chair or sit sideways if you wish. Free from mechanical adjustments, Variable™ is intuitive to use, lightweight, and easy to move around.
