This authentic tatami mattress, from Karup Design, is of superior quality and carefully crafted in traditional Japanese style. Made from renewable rice straw, the mattress is environmentally friendly and will last up to 20 years with proper care. Use it for a Japanese-inspired tea room, place it in one of Karup Design's bed frames and under a futon mattress, let it become a nice design feature when used as a headboard for your bed or as a play mat for the children's playroom.
Care instructions - Tatami
The tatami material must be kept dry to avoid moisture and mold. We recommend that your tatami mattress is only wiped with a light, damp cloth and do not use any harsh cleaning solutions. You can vacuum in the direction of the weave. Going against the direction of the weave can damage the material or cause dirt to creep in. Make sure to select the weakest setting when using a vacuum cleaner.
Tatami mattresses are sensitive to moisture, avoid leaving carpets or other coverings on top of a tatami mattress as this creates a damp environment that promotes mold. We recommend that you clean and air the tatami mattress regularly. Dry and sunny days are best for airing the tatami mattresses.
