We scored a stash of incredible quality Mullard OC41 & OC42 “Red Dot” transistors and are over the moon.
Currently produced with Mullard “Metal Can” OC41 & OC42 transistors, the noise floor is low and the sounds are amazing. The OC41 and OC42 were produced at the same time and sorted for gain levels, named accordingly.The MK1 circuit needs “stepped gain” to sound best. With the second transistor doing the “heavy lifting”, we place the higher gain OC42 here and use the quieter OC41 to allow for the surprisingly low noise floor in a vintage style fuzz!
The “Gate” and “Tone” controls & “MK1/Zonk” switch add the flexibility to tune in a variety of MK1 fuzz responses.
Unlike the original Tone Bender MK1, which always “gated off” the signal after each note – sometimes gently, sometimes quite abruptly – the JDM Elektrika has the additional “Gate” control to adjust how strong this “gating” effect is, or lets you open it up all the way for long sustain.
The “Tone” control lets you dial back the high treble to suit your amplifier, as well. Amps 70’s were often a lot “darker” than they are today. If the MK1 circuit in the Elektrika sounds bright on your amp, this will warm up the tone to perfection. This filter does not adversely affect the sound and response, but passively “takes the edge off”, much like the tone control on your guitar.
